The Cottage

Most of Easterleigh Cottage is thought to have been built around 1840, in typical Cotswold stone. It is a semi-detatched cottage, i.e. the building to the right of the central chimney as viewed from the front. The name comes from the Anglo Saxon word "leigh" or "leah", meaning an open meadow. It has low beamed ceilings in the living room and the Master bedroom upstairs has been built in similar style with exposed beams. In typical historic cottage style some of the window sills are 18 inches wide! The stone fireplace has been kept although, as is common in a lot of Cotswold properties, a wood burning stove has been attached. Downstairs a beautiful tiled conservatory was added that we have made the dining room. The kitchen was completely renovated in 2010 to bring it up to the latest modern standards. But we kept the Rayburn cooker, similar to the famous Aga cookers, it can be left on permanently and can provide hot water and heat as well as an efficient cooker. For convenience there is also a modern electric immersion heater and, of course, central heating.

Bedrooms: One with double bed, two with twin beds (can be used as double beds) and one with a single bed.

Upstairs there are two bathrooms, with showers, and downstairs there is a shower room with a sink and WC. The cottage has been repainted, carpeted and renewed central heating throughout. New curtains have been handmade. Paintings and furnishings are a blend of modern, and antiques acquired from various auctions. Internet connections, wi-fi and telephone landline are provided. There is a large garden, divided into several sections.
